Canada In A Day

Grab Your Camera

Based on the highly successful Life in a Day series of films from Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald, Canada In A Day allowed viewers to experience a day in the life of Canada. Comprised entirely of footage shot by Canadians around the world on Sept.10, the event special made its broadcast television debut on CTV for Canada's 150th birthday.

Canadians were asked to participate in the event that saw citizens from around the world shoot and submit video in any language that captured a moment in their life. From these stories, viewers will see what it means to be Canadian via a video snapshot of who we are as a nation.

Interactive Clock

The header section of the website was transformed into a 24hr interactive clock feature where users could click through 24 images from around Canada. The clock pulled in visitors current time to the closest hour and displayed the image for that hour. Users could also interact through the hours at their own pace or watch as the clock animates itself through the images.

This area was also used as a main call to action from launch, putting the CTV trailer front and centre — through to the final upload day prompting users to upload their videos.

Ambassadors

To spread the word to Canadians everywhere, the idea of an Ambassador Program was created in the initial stages of the concept. With combined efforts, a high-profile and diverse Ambassador team of Canadians who are proud supporters of the project was assembled. In addition to reaching out on their social accounts, each ambassador provided a video promoting the project and encouraging others to participate.

Upload Platform

A critical phase of the project — without a user friendly, reliable upload platform, the project would have no way of being a success. After many iterations, user tests, feature cuts and changes, the upload platform launched on the official filming day, Sept.10.2016. Uploads stayed open over a 4 week period, allowing users to submit an unlimited amount of footage.
